Amazon Recommended Packing – What You Need to Know

Hello Sellers,

Wanted to flag something that might be relevant if you're using Small Parcel Delivery (SPD) for your inbound FBA shipments.

Amazon now offers a Recommended Packing method. It gives you suggested SKU groupings ("pack groups") aimed at improving how your products are distributed across the fulfillment network. If you follow these recommendations, your shipment becomes eligible for a discount on future fulfillment fees.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Only available for SPD shipments with parcels under 15 kg. LTL/FTL not supported.
  • You’ll see the option in Step 1b of the Send to Amazon workflow.
  • Recommendations expire after 7 days. You’ll need to confirm packing within that time.
  • "Pack later," 2D barcodes, and manual confirmation aren't supported with this method.
  • You can still use multiple boxes, as long as the SKUs and quantities match the pack group instructions.

Once your shipment is received and verified, the discount will be applied to your future fulfillment fees. This typically takes up to 30 days. You can track any earned incentives in the "Track your savings" section of Seller Central.

If the recommendations don’t align with your current workflow, the standard packing method is still available. Just note that it won’t include any discounts.

@Ezra_Amazon I can't get this to work for any larger shipments. Just get an error message. Any help would be welcome.

The largest shipment I have got it to work for was 50 SKUs and 158 items.

I've also noticed the packages seems to be taking longer to be delivered and checked in when I use this method, but I don't understand why - for a shipment sent 21st May in 4 packages, 2 haven't been delivered yet, one was delivered yesterday and one today. maybe because some of the packages are really quite small after splitting the shipment and get a bit lost at UPS.

I did used this for over 40 shipments, and the average shipment quantity was 1500-2000 units across 2-3 SKUs.

The workflow is working absolutely fine. However, the help page advising on how to track savings does not reflect the actual information.

The help page refers to the " track your savings" tile, however, this tile only shows New seller Incentives, which are shipping credits and advertising credits.

As of now, the latest update I received from Amazon Selling Partner Support Escalation Department is that there is no tool present at the Amazon Seller Central to track these savings. This can be traced only in a way of checking the orders in transaction reports and seeing which do not have the FBA fee applied to them. There is no filter to extract these orders, though as well.

However, the Amazon Team provided me with the spreadsheet of the orders where the FBA discount had been applied, and I can see that they actually did not charge the FBA shipping fee on the many orders, and the amount I was supposed to save matches the total amount of the discount.

So this incentive is working and applied to the account, the only issue it is not traceable except manual check.

They working on a new reporting tool, but this might take time.

Below is a reply I got from the Amazonians

"The responsible team has reviewed the issue you have raised with the "Amazon recommended packing method" incentives.

Once Amazon receives all boxes for your inbound shipment and verifies that the inventory is packed according to the Amazon Recommended packing details you confirmed in Step 1b of the "Send to Amazon" workflow, we will process the incentive for you within 30 days. The validation process involves Amazon matching the inventory in received boxes against the packing information you provided during shipment creation. If the received inventory aligns with the recommended pack groups, we will process the incentive.

Please note: The incentive is applied as a discount to your future order fulfillment fees, up to the maximum fee for a given order.

As an example:

Order 206-******-******* received discounts from Amazon recommended packing method and, in consequence, it doesn't have FBA fulfillment fee per unit applied. You can verify this in the Transaction details in Seller Central, and in the settlement reports.

The responsible team will implement a reporting option in Seller Central that will allow Selling Partners to track the accrued discounts. Please understand that we cannot provide a date when this will be implemented at this time. Please review your Seller Central reports for updates.

I will share a list with orders with savings applied with you. Due to attachment limits I will have to split in several attachments. "

Hope this information will help
