🏖️ Need a Break? Your Guide to Amazon Seller Vacation Mode! 🏖️

Hey there, fellow entrepreneurs! Connor here, and let's talk about something we all need sometimes - a break! Whether you're chasing that spring wanderlust or dealing with family matters, sometimes you just need to step away from your Amazon business. And that's exactly where vacation mode comes in handy.

There are two super important reasons to use vacation mode when you need a break:

  • First, it's just good business etiquette. Your customers deserve to know when you're not available to fulfill orders. No one likes waiting for packages that can't be sent.
  • Second, it's crucial for protecting your seller account health. Those order defect rates and performance metrics? They matter big time, and vacation mode helps keep them in check.

Ready to set up vacation mode? It's easier than packing your suitcase:So how do you actually set your account to vacation mode? It's pretty easy:

  1. From your account, select Settings, then select Account Info.
  2. On the Seller Account page, look for the "Store Status" section and click on "Vacation Settings"
  3. Next Page you will see your marketplaces, then click on "Edit" and toggle the vacation mode setting on/off.

Before you head out, keep these key points in mind:

  • Always have a plan for those buyer messages - they still need responses within 24 hours.
  • Take care of existing orders before activating vacation mode.
  • If possible, set everything up before your actual break starts.

Need more details? The Seller Central help pages have got your back with all the nitty-gritty info about managing listings while you're away.

In my experience, going into and then out of vacation mode puts our sales well below where they were before going into vacation mode. I suspect it lowers your BuyBox% (as displayed on the seller central home page), which then prevents products from being surfaced. Amazon staff will simultaneously deny this while stating that they don't know and can't say what goes into the buy box formula, which is an inherent contradiction.

My experience tells me that raising lead times for the duration you're planning on being away is better, but Amazon is trying to kill this option with OTDR and (poor) automation.

Alternatively, just wait until Amazon's monopolistic practices put you out of business, and you can have as much time off as you like (presuming you're an American, because the rules are different for the majority of sellers, which are from another country).

[Also absurd: take that long-deserved break, but still answer messages within 24 hours, even on the weekends]
